Ever feel like you can guess what kind of music someone listens to by the way they dress? If the answer is yes, you understand that music and fashion have always had an undeniable link.
“Think about the Sex Pistols, Vivienne Westwood, and the Rolling Stones,” says Internet “it” girl and New York City-based DJ, Harley Viera-Newton. “When I was in high school and The Strokes came out, they were all wearing those tiny jackets—all the boys started wearing the tiny little jackets too.”
Harley is one of Target’s two very special guest editors this month. In June, we’re celebrating fashion and music with help from Harley and downtown sweetheart, DJ, and music video director Vashtie Kola.
“The classics I always listen to—Depeche Mode, The Cure, Biggie, Nas, The Smiths—all play a part in my wardrobe,” Vashtie explains. “They set the tone for me. I can have my own style. I can be my own rockstar.”
Meet our editors…
Both DJs styled five favorite looks from Target—each ensemble inspired by a song of their choice. Rock out to their Summer Jams playlist below and check out their picks in On the Dot.
