Sam & Libby

Shoe designing husband-and-wife duo Sam and Libby Edelman have been a reigning pair in the shoe industry for more than 30 years. They catapulted to footwear fame in the 80s for their iconic, bow-clad ballet flats and are now reintroducing the brand that first made them a household name.

Starting May 5, Sam and Libby will debut an exclusive women’s collection, fittingly named Sam & Libby for Target at all Target stores, with an expanded assortment at Target.com.

Starting at $24.99, the new line features 20 contemporary styles, from sandals and flats to patterned wedges and pumps. Take a peek at a few of the must-have styles below, and read on for our interview with sole mates Sam and Libby.

What was the inspiration for this collection?
Sam: We visited an African market that inspired us to think tribal, and it’s always about breaking the rules with mixtures of materials and playing with colors. Marilyn Monroe was an inspiration for our Americana trend—we take pastels and prints and create something really special.

What style of shoe do you wear year round?
Libby: I can’t answer with just one shoe! I live in ballet flats, pumps, oxfords and a short bootie that can be worn every season.

What’s your favorite shoe for making a statement?

Libby: Pick a bright pair or one that’s unique in embellishment and materials.

Any tips for women who want both comfort and style?
Libby: Go for something that catches your eye, try it on and if you’re still smiling after five minutes, go for it.

What shoe trends are you loving right now?
Sam: We’re loving snake, floral and animal prints mixed with pops of neon color. And you can never go wrong with metallic. You’ll see both in our collection.

What look goes best with your flats?
Libby: Shorts, flirty dresses and cropped skinny jeans so you can show off your shoes.
