How do you encourage your kids to step away from the screen for some active play? Target Mommy Ambassador Soleil Moon Frye has a few ideas! Between smartphones, tablets and TVs, the L.A.-based mom routinely reminds her two adorable daughters to get up and get moving. Below, she shares a few no-fail tips to get kids interested in a healthy dose of fitness fun.
1. Dress the part: Make sweating stylish for your little ones. Invest in a few chic and affordable activewear staples, and they’ll be eager to show off their new threads to friends. My daughters love the bright tees and shorts from C9 by Champion—the exclusive activewear line for Target.
2. Think beyond the blacktop: Every once in a while, throw the play date of all play dates. Team up with other parents in the area to make an obstacle course for the neighborhood, or go big and rent a bouncy house! Need some inspiration? Earlier this spring, I teamed up with Target to host an action class for L.A. bloggers and their mini-me’s at AdventurePlex. The kids especially loved the rock-climbing wall and jungle gym. 3. Practice what you preach: Most importantly, show your kids that exercise is part of your daily routine. By embracing an active lifestyle, your children are more likely to adopt healthy habits. Encourage kids to refuel with nutritious, filling meals. Try a delicious recipe for Southwest Quinoa Salad or Cauliflower Steaks.
4. Be consistent: Active play and exercise shouldn’t stop when the sun is being stubborn. No matter the weather, there are always fun ways to get your kids off the couch, whether it’s making a game out of cleaning or stretching while studying.
